Filters Available for Instagram Giveaways

Osortoo provides several filters to help you organize participants and select winners fairly during an Instagram giveaway.
These filters work on the comments collected from eligible Instagram posts and allow you to control who can enter the draw.

Below are all the filters available for Instagram giveaways and how each one works.

1. Remove duplicate users

This filter keeps only one entry per user.
If someone comments multiple times, Osortoo counts them as one participant.

Useful when:

  • each user is supposed to have one chance
  • you want to prevent comment spam
  • your rules allow only one entry per person

2. Minimum number of mentions (tag requirement)

This filter allows you to require that participants tag a certain number of people in their comment.

Examples:

  • “Tag 1 friend”
  • “Tag 2 friends”
  • “Tag 3 friends”

If a user tags fewer people than required, Osortoo removes them from the eligible list.

This is one of the most commonly used Instagram giveaway rules.

3. Keyword filter (include or exclude)

You can filter comments based on specific keywords or hashtags.

Include keywords

Allows only comments containing certain words.
Example: “Write your favorite product.”

Exclude keywords

Useful for:

  • blocking spam
  • excluding unwanted content
  • avoiding irrelevant entries

4. Blacklist / Exclude specific users

You can manually exclude users who:

  • violate the rules
  • made inappropriate comments
  • entered incorrectly
  • should not qualify

This filter gives you full control over user eligibility.

5. Language filtering (when applicable)

If your giveaway targets a specific audience, you can filter out comments in unwanted languages.
This filter depends on the post type and Instagram’s API availability.

6. Remove comments without text (optional depending on API)

Some giveaways require a meaningful comment (not just emojis or empty tags).
You can filter out comments that:

  • contain only emojis
  • contain only mentions
  • do not meet your content requirements

This is useful for engagement-based contests.

7. Filter comments by time/date

(Available for some Instagram API conditions)

This filter helps exclude:

  • late comments
  • comments posted outside the giveaway window
  • early comments from before the giveaway started

Useful when your rules specify a clear start and end time.

8. Filter by unique users

(This is a more strict version of duplicate removal)

This filter removes:

  • multiple comments
  • comment replies
  • repeated or automated interactions

Only one entry per user remains.

Notes about Instagram filtering

Instagram’s API has strict rules about comment access.
Filters work only on the comments Instagram makes available, which means:

  • replies may not appear
  • comments from private/restricted users may be missing
  • comments hidden by Instagram cannot be restored

Osortoo applies filters to the data that Instagram allows.
