Osortoo Cannot Retrieve YouTube Comments

If Osortoo is unable to retrieve comments from your YouTube video, the issue usually comes from video privacy settings, missing YouTube permissions, API limits, or restrictions applied to the video or your channel.
YouTube has strict rules about which comments third-party platforms can access.

The sections below explain all the possible causes and how to fix them.

1. The YouTube video must be public

Osortoo can only retrieve comments from public videos.
YouTube blocks access for:

  • private videos
  • unlisted videos
  • scheduled (not yet published) videos
  • members-only videos
  • age-restricted videos

How to fix

Make sure the video is Public in YouTube Studio → Visibility settings.

2. Comments must be enabled on the video

If comments are turned off, Osortoo cannot load anything.

Check this in YouTube Studio

  1. Go to Content
  2. Edit your video
  3. Go to Comments and ratings
  4. Ensure comments are Allowed

If “Hold potentially inappropriate comments for review” is turned on, some comments may not appear.

3. Channel content for kids blocks comments

If your video is marked as “Made for Kids,” YouTube automatically disables comments.

This setting overrides everything else.

Fix

In YouTube Studio → Video → Audience
Select No, it’s not made for kids.

Comments should reappear, and Osortoo can retrieve them.

4. You did not grant full YouTube permissions

If you denied or skipped permissions when connecting YouTube, Osortoo cannot access comments.

Reset permissions

  1. Go to your Google Account → Security
  2. Open Third-party apps with account access
  3. Find Osortoo
  4. Remove it
  5. Return to Osortoo and reconnect
  6. Accept all requested permissions

This refreshes your YouTube access token.

5. You are using the wrong Google account

Some users have multiple Google accounts connected in their browser.
If you log in with the wrong account, Osortoo will not find the video.

Fix

  • Log out of all Google accounts
  • Log in only with the Google account that owns the YouTube channel
  • Reconnect Osortoo

6. Your video is too new or comments were posted recently

YouTube’s API may take a few minutes to index new comments.

Fix

Wait 2–10 minutes and refresh the data.

7. Comments held for review cannot be retrieved

If your comments are set to “Hold for review,” YouTube does not expose them to the API.

You will see them on YouTube Studio, but they will not appear in Osortoo.

Fix

Approve or release comments from the Review tab if needed.

8. Your YouTube channel must be active and verified

Some YouTube API features require:

  • a verified channel
  • an active status
  • no community guideline restrictions

If your channel is restricted, the API may block access to comments.

Check in YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Status and Features.

9. Browser or network issues may block the sync

Extensions or network settings can interrupt the YouTube connection.

Disable or avoid:

  • ad blockers
  • privacy extensions
  • VPNs
  • script blockers
  • corporate network restrictions

Try:

  • using an incognito window
  • switching to Chrome or Firefox
  • trying another network

10. YouTube API limits or temporary server delays

YouTube sometimes delays comment retrieval, especially with:

  • high-engagement videos
  • large numbers of comments
  • rapid comment activity

This is normal.
Retry after a few minutes.

Summary

Osortoo cannot retrieve YouTube comments when:

  1. The video is not Public
  2. Comments are disabled or held for review
  3. The video is marked Made for Kids
  4. YouTube permissions were not granted
  5. The wrong Google account is used
  6. Comments are too recent
  7. Privacy or restriction settings are active
  8. Browser or network tools block API access
  9. YouTube API is experiencing delays

Once the video is public, comments are enabled, the correct account is connected, and all permissions are granted, Osortoo retrieves YouTube comments successfully.
