Instagram Asking to Connect to Facebook

Instagram may ask you to connect to Facebook when you try to use Osortoo. This message appears because Instagram requires a Facebook Page link to allow third-party apps to access comments and run giveaways.

Why Instagram Requires Facebook

Instagram’s API works through Facebook’s system.
To collect comments or access your posts, Instagram must be linked to a Facebook Page that you control.
Without this connection, Instagram blocks the login and displays the message asking you to link your account to Facebook.

How to Fix the issue

1. Switch your Instagram account to Professional

Osortoo only works with Business or Creator accounts.

To check your account type:

  1. Open Instagram
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Open Account
  4. Look for Switch to Professional Account

If this option appears, your account is still personal. Switch to Professional.

2. Link Instagram to a Facebook Page

This is the most important step.
Instagram must be connected to a Page, not your personal Facebook profile.

To link them:

  1. Open Instagram
  2. Go to Settings → Account → Sharing to other apps
  3. Select Facebook
  4. Choose a Facebook Page where you have Admin access

If you only see your personal profile, you must first create or access a Page.

3. Make sure you are an Admin of the Page

Only Page Admins can authorize Instagram connections.

To verify:

  • Go to your Facebook Page
  • Open Settings → Page Roles
  • Confirm your profile is listed as Admin

Other roles such as Editor or Moderator do not work.

4. Reset your permissions

If Instagram keeps asking to connect to Facebook, reset Osortoo’s permissions:

  1. Go to facebook.com/settings
  2. Open Business Integrations
  3. Remove Osortoo
  4. Return to Osortoo and reconnect Instagram
  5. Accept all permissions

This refreshes your access tokens and solves most login issues.

5. Log out and log back in

If sessions are outdated, Instagram may request the Facebook connection again.

Do this:

  1. Log out of Instagram
  2. Log out of Facebook
  3. Close your browser
  4. Log back in on both platforms
  5. Try connecting Osortoo again

6. Check browser settings

Instagram authentication depends on Facebook login pop-ups.
Make sure your browser allows:

  • cookies
  • pop-ups
  • third-party scripts

Disable any blocking extensions, or try an incognito window.

Summary

Instagram asks you to connect to Facebook because your account must be Professional and linked to a Facebook Page with Admin rights. Once the link is active and permissions are refreshed, Osortoo can access your posts and collect comments.
