API errors happen when Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube do not respond correctly to Osortoo’s data requests. These errors usually come from permission issues, expired connections, platform limitations, or corrupted responses from the social networks.
The sections below explain the most common API error cases and how to fix them.
1. Expired Facebook or Instagram Permissions
Platforms often expire permissions after a period of inactivity or for security reasons.
Symptoms
- posts not loading
- missing Instagram accounts
- comments not loading
- “API error” message during import
How to fix
- Go to Facebook → Settings → Business Integrations
- Remove Osortoo
- Return to Osortoo and reconnect Facebook and Instagram
This refreshes all access tokens.
2. Missing Admin permissions
If you are not an Admin of the Facebook Page, the API blocks access to posts and comments.
Symptoms
- Page does not appear
- Instagram account missing
- “API access denied”
Fix
Ask the Page owner to give you Admin access and reconnect.
3. Instagram is not linked to a Facebook Page
Instagram data is only accessible when IG is linked to a Facebook Page.
Symptoms
- API error when selecting Instagram
- “No posts found”
- missing comments
Fix
On Instagram:
- Go to Settings → Account → Sharing to Other Apps
- Connect a Facebook Page
Reconnect in Osortoo afterwards.
4. Personal Instagram account used
Personal IG accounts do not give API access.
Symptoms
- IG account shows no posts
- constant API errors when loading
Fix
Switch to a Professional (Business or Creator) account.
5. Meta API rate limits reached
Facebook and Instagram limit how many requests can be made in a short time.
Symptoms
- comments load partially
- posts not loading
- giveaway stuck “In Progress”
Fix
Wait a few minutes and retry.
The limit resets automatically.
6. Deleted or hidden comments
The API does not return:
- deleted comments
- comments under review
- comments from restricted users
- hidden or filtered comments
Symptoms
- fewer comments in the export
- API response incomplete
There is no fix; the platform controls this behavior.
7. Invalid or edited post
If the post was edited, replaced, or marked as restricted, the API may fail.
Symptoms
- “Post not available”
- “Cannot load comments”
- API error when selecting the post
Fix
Recreate the giveaway and import the post again.
If the post is restricted, use another one.
8. API timeout or slow platform response
Meta or YouTube may respond slowly due to traffic.
Symptoms
- long loading times
- giveaway stuck on loading
- intermittent API errors
Fix
Wait a few minutes and refresh the page.
9. VPN, ad blockers, or browser extensions blocking the request
Extensions may interrupt the API handshake.
Symptoms
- login popup blocked
- incomplete permissions
- “API connection failed”
Fix
Disable temporarily:
- AdBlock
- uBlock
- VPN
- privacy extensions
Reconnect Facebook and Instagram.
10. Outdated browser or device incompatibility
Older browsers may fail to render API responses correctly.
Fix
Use:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Firefox
- Edge
Avoid outdated browsers or old mobile devices.
11. The Facebook Page was not selected during login
If you didn’t select the Page during the permission window, the API cannot load it.
Symptoms
- IG posts not showing
- Page missing
- “No posts available”
Fix
Reconnect Facebook and select all Pages when asked.
12. Facebook / Instagram outages
When Meta experiences global issues, API connections fail temporarily.
Fix
Wait for the platform to stabilize and try again.

Contact Osortoo if API errors persist after refreshing your connections.
Include:
